Sifnos is an amazing Cycladic island, an ideal resort for those who want to combine relaxation and calm. The visitors can discover the rare beauty by simply walking along the paths, swimming in the natural or organized beaches and admiring the traditional architecture of settlements.

According to myths and legends, Sifnos was considered the island of Apollo, the ancient Greek god of light.

Getting there

By boat

Sifnos is connected with the port of Piraeus and you can enjoy your trip either with conventional  ferry-boat or high-speed boat.

Beaches

Sifnos has at its disposal a wide choice of beaches which will satisfy all tastes.

Kamares Beach

It is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches of the island, with virgin vegetation and shallow waters. It is accessible by road. Close to the beach, the bathers can find restaurants and coffee-shops.  

Platys Gialos beach

This spellbinding beach constitutes the most popular choice of the visitors of the island. One of the longest sandy beach of Cyclades, provides a great number of activities and facilities to the bathers. In addition, as it is a  well-organized beach, several  taverns with local food and coffee-shops can be found there.

Chrissopigi beach

Its name comes from the homonymous monastery of the Virgin Mary of Chrissopigi that is located next to the beach. The rocks of Chrissopigi are the favorite place for the bathers who love diving. The beach  is covered with sand and pebbles, and tamarisks offer shade to the visitors.

Vathy beach

The beach is long, sandy, with shallow waters. It amazes the bathers with its azure crystal waters. Also sailboats can moor there as it is naturally protected. Furthermore, the visitor can find all the kind of facilities.

Sightseeing

Kastro Village

Kastro is the old capital of Sifnos. At the top of the hill there are the ruins of the dominating ancient citadel of Kastro (6th century B.C.) that was surrounded by a wall made of sifnian marble, which was the only marble wall of that era in Cyclades and the only one that is still preserved.  Also it is worth visiting the archaeological museum.

The monastery of Panagia Chrissopigi


Panagia Chrissopigi, the island's most famous monastery, is built on a rocky promontory. It is considered the patron saint of Sifnos. The monastery was constructed in 1650, when the  residents of the island found the icon of Virgin Mary, which according to the tradition, had miraculously arrived there from the sea.

 The chapel of the Seven Martyrs


The chapel of the Seven Martyrs (or Eftamartyros), is built under the hill of Kastro and it is connected with it, with a long stairway. The spellbinding view, amazes the visitors.

Local products

*Sifnos is famous for its pottery tradition. Today, there are a great number of potter’s workshops in the island that contribute to the maintenance of our ancestors’ tradition. The visitor can find not only stunning ceramic objects, but also watch the traditional way of their manufacture in one of the potter’s workshops!

*Sifnos’ honey, which is famous for its purity and its fine quality, its aroma and its excellent flavor! Its flavor and its aroma are due to the thyme, which grows all over the island!

*You can find the famous sifnian sweets  at the traditional bakeries and sweetshops of Sifnos.
