“Manto Mavrogenous” the name of the airport in Mykonos

 Αccording to a decision of the Greek Transport Ministry, the airport on the Greek island of Mykonos will be renamed to “Manto Mavrogenous”.

Manto Mavrogenous was a heroine of the Greek revolution. She was a beautiful woman of aristocratic lineage. She grew up in an educated family and she studied ancient Greek philosophy,  history at a college in Trieste, and spoke French, Italian and Turkish fluently.

The position of women in the Greek revolution for independence was significant as their contribution in it, became from their values of freedom and  they had the power to support their ideas.

 Mykonos Mayor Konstantinos Koukas believes that it is very important for the island of Myconos, to contibute with this way in the promotion of local culture. The rich history, the hospitality and the beauty of the Greek island of Myconos is unique in the whole world.  

Mykonos is a famous cosmopolitan island in the heart of Cyclades. The island  attracts surfers and sailors from all over the world as it is named “Island of the Winds”. You can also visit the Archaeological, Folklore and Maritime Museums.
