Kalavryta town is one of the hot winter destinations in the Peloponnese. It lies at the foot of the mountain Chelmos and it is worth visiting and feeling the sounds of nature. It is located  in the region of Achaia, 190 km from Athens.“Kala Vryta” literally translates to “Good Waters”. Kalavryta town can be reached by road or rail from Athens and Patras.

During  the winter you can visit the ski centre. Helmos ski centre has 12 runs with a total length of 20 km and 7 ski lifts, suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers.

A beautiful setting with stone-built houses, picturesque cafés and tavernas right next to big shady plane trees. The romantic scenery makes it an ideal destination for couples and for those who love nature.

Kalavryta is famous for Odontotos, the rack railway service. It covers the 22km Kalavryta – Diakopto route, the most beautiful route in Greece. The train takes 100 passengers on a tour around Vouraikos. The journey takes one hour and the speed of the train ranges between 30 and 40 Km/h at the usual rail and 6 - 15 Km/h at the cogs. The name of the river Vouraikos originated from ancient years. According to mythology, Hercules was in love with Voura, the daughter of Nefeligeretes and Eliki, who lived in the sea. He opened then this passage to reach the sea and meet her. The river was named after her.

During the route, the visitor can see small and big waterfalls and natural pools. Next to railway there is a path, which is used by a lot of hikers.

You can buy traditional products like honey, hand-made pasta (chilopites in Greek), and herbs. Also there are shops selling souvenirs. The visitor can taste the cheese feta kalavriton.  It is considered to be one of the best cheeses in Greece.
