World Wine Tourism Day in Greece: Discover Greek Wineries, Vineyards & Wine Tasting Experiences

Every year, wine lovers have a wonderful reason to explore Greece's beautiful wine regions!

On Sunday, November 8, wineries across the country celebrate World Wine Tourism Day, welcoming visitors to discover the fascinating world of Greek wine, explore picturesque vineyards, meet local winemakers, and enjoy unique wine-tasting experiences.

Organized by the regional associations participating in the Wine Roads of Greece, this annual celebration is an invitation to experience Greece beyond its famous beaches, islands, and ancient landmarks, discovering its rich winemaking traditions and authentic gastronomic culture.

Discover the Wine Regions of Greece

World Wine Tourism Day offers a unique opportunity to explore some of Greece's most beautiful wine-producing regions. Visitors can meet Greek winemakers, stroll through stunning vineyards, and discover the traditions and passion behind some of the country's finest wines.

Participating wineries open their doors to the public, offering guided tours of their facilities, including wine production areas, cellars, and aging rooms. Guests can learn about the winemaking process, from the grape harvest to the final bottle.

Of course, no winery visit would be complete without a wine tasting! Visitors can sample both young and aged vintages, discover new labels, and taste fresh wines from the latest harvest.

World Wine Tourism Day: Celebrating Greek Wine Culture

Originally established in 2009 as European Wine Tourism Day, the celebration became a worldwide event in 2019. It now takes place every year on the second Sunday of November, bringing together wineries and wine enthusiasts from around the globe.

This year's celebration also coincides with World Wine in Moderation Day, an international initiative promoting responsible and moderate wine consumption.

The two celebrations highlight the important connection between wine tourism, gastronomy, local traditions, and responsible wine enjoyment, while emphasizing the values of education, hospitality, and respect for consumers.

Which Greek Wine Regions Are Participating?

All seven regional wine producers' associations in Greece are taking part in this year's World Wine Tourism Day celebrations:

  • Wines of Northern Greece
  • Wines and Spirits of Thessaly
  • Central Greece Wine Producers Association
  • Attica Vineyard Wine Producers Association
  • Peloponnese Vineyard Wine Producers Association
  • Aegean Islands Wine Producers and Growers Association

Together, these associations showcase the diversity of Greek wine, from indigenous grape varieties and distinctive regional wines to centuries-old winemaking traditions.
